Founded in 1919, Mercier embodies over a century of French excellence and has marked the democratization of cycling, particularly from the 1950s to the 1970s. The brand has excelled at the highest level with over 40 stage victories in the Tour de France, 5 successes in Paris-Roubaix, and 4 victories in Milan-San Remo, affirming a prestigious and lasting heritage.
Birth
It was in 1919, in the city of Saint-Étienne, that Émile Mercier and his brothers founded the bicycle manufacturing company.
Mercier turns Pro
In 1933, the leaders had a visionary approach. To make itself known to the public, Mercier created a professional team in 1933
Badge of honor
It was from 1955 that the characteristic violet jersey of Mercier riders appeared. "It's not pretty but at least we're seen in the peloton," declared Emile Mercier.
Paradise for Bobet
The Breton rider succeeded his compatriot Jean Forestier and won "the Hell of the North" in spring 1956. He used his sprinting speed to beat Belgian Alfred De Bruyne and… Jean Forestier. Bobet entered legend with this victory in Roubaix.
Birth of a Legend
For the 1961 edition of the 298-kilometer classic, an unknown appeared on screens for the first time. His name? Raymond Poulidor.
Rivalry at the top
In 1964, the rivalry between the cold Anquetil and unlucky Poulidor divided France. The 20th stage of the 1964 Tour de France would be the decider.
The Climax
150,000 bicycles manufactured in 1975. Mercier's reputation was built on quality production, with bicycles mostly equipped with components from Saint-Étienne or Italy.
The decline
1919-2019: the revival
